Anies Leads Krukut IPAL Project Groundbreaking

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) work in Krukut, Karet Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Sunday (12/8).

This IPAL is very important in Jakarta as a big city needs to seriously manage its waste which can be processed and reused

This IPAL facility was completed with educational and entertainment facilities, as well as humanist aesthetic nuances.

It was actually a continuation of the modern IPAL operation, which began in January 2019, and previously the PD PAL Jaya used conventional techniques and joined the flood control.

As for the information, conventional techniques have weaknesses, as it requires a large area so it is less efficient. While the Krukut WWTP only requires around 2,000 square meters, which is very appropriate for the lack of land in urban areas.

"This IPAL is very important in Jakarta as a big city needs to seriously manage its waste which can be processed and reused," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

It would be designed as a place of learning to make it easier for students and residents, even waste caretakers from other cities to learn to develop their waste treatment.

"There will be paths and places that are open to the public so they can see the process and its ways. This place is strategically located next to Jalan Sudirman so anyone can stop by to see the waste treatment process as learning material," he explained.

"PD PAL Jaya Director needs all stakeholders to support the provision of sanitation facilities towards the realization of PAL Jaya Hebat Jakarta Sehat, including locals. Thus, the wastewater disposal can be through the pipeline network," explained PD PAL Jaya President Director, Subekti.

There were two approaches taken in this project, namely piping and non-piping. In the pipeline approach, the first was the development of zone 0, namely the construction of nine work packages for the main pipe, seven DED packages for the secondary pipe, the operation of the Setiabudi IPAL facility since January 2019 and Krukut IPAL development.

Then was improving the quality of processed wastewater by providing IPAL with Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology, which is the reactor where microbiology grows on the surface of certain media then forms a film layer that functions as a kind of filter for wastewater. This technology has a capacity of 250 liters per second.

There were also routinely clean wastewater pipelines, procure network maintenance equipment to serve piped wastewater customers in narrow streets/alleys, on-site development through revitalization of septic, communal and interceptor tanks and GIS preparation.

While the areas that have been served by the pipeline system were Setiabudi Sub-district, Tebet Sub-district, Mega Kuningan, Gatot Subroto SCBD, Senayan, Bendungan Hilir, Karet.

Further, in the non-piping approach, the first was making a BIOPAL modified septic tank (type 1, type 2 and saving package) in order to serve wastewater disposal from households and small businesses, the construction of communal mini and interceptors in the Item River area, improve the performance of the Duri Kosambi Sewer Treatment Plant (IPLT) and Pulo Gebang IPLT and the socialization of scheduled desludging services through the Grebeg L2T2 program.

Lastly the number of PD PAL Jaya customers in 2019 was 2,715 customers per unit (12,864,151 M²). Meanwhile, coverage of wastewater services until this year's third quarter reached 22.08 percent or served 1,286,415 citizens.
